Why did I log out of online shopping?

Stepping back from the e-commerce wave

The Great Indian Bazaar (Instagram page)

Unless it’s a book that a local book seller won’t have or a stellar deal on Amazon, I can’t help but feel a pang of guilt when I make an online purchase.

When I opt for online shopping, be it for groceries or household items, I acknowledge that I'm missing out on the chance to stroll around, observe random things and people, and let my mind wander.

After being an online shopping addict for almost a decade now, I’m consciously making efforts to sign out.

The advantages:

§ Every time i step out of the home- I capture beautiful photos for my Instagram page

§ Being out and about allows me to keep an eye on businesses that are actively promoting themselves. As a share market enthusiast - it helps me make a decision. Recently I had an aha moment when i saw a lot of L&T Finance banners in Dadar - a stock I was confused about.

§ I support local businesses rather than empowering an American tycoon on a yacht or catering to Foreign Institutional Investors or a startup CEO already calculating her IPO gains all the while burning Angel money.

§ If my GPay is not working or i am not carrying cash, the local vendor knows me well to offer credit😋.

§ I’m not a fan of hitting the gym, but I do enjoy taking long walks and working up a sweat in the bustling bazaars. Nothing beats the noise, sweat, smells and energy of an Indian bazaar.

By the way, I also steer clear of malls. Their uniformity is soul-crushing. It’s intriguing how malls tend to exude a similar aura regardless of their location. In contrast, bazaars possess a unique character that morphs with every city I visit.

And I am in august company here. This is what Kurt Vanegut comments...

“…And so I pretend not to hear her. And go out to get an envelope because I’m going to have a hell of a good time in the process of buying one envelope. I meet a lot of people. And, see some great looking babes. And a fire engine goes by. And I give them the thumbs up. And, and ask a woman what kind of dog that is. And, and I don’t know.
The moral of the story is, we’re here on Earth to fart around. And, of course, the computers will do us out of that. And, what the computer people don’t realize, or they don’t care, is we’re dancing animals. You know, we love to move around.
And, we’re not supposed to dance at all anymore.”

Yes, I agree, Mr.Vanegut.
