मैं असली में असली हूँ, no cap
Beat’on पे जंगली हूँ,no cap
ढीठ हूँ मैं, सनकी हूँ,no cap
करता मैं मन की हूँ, no cap

As I groove to Kr$na’s (Krishna Kaul’s) track “No Cap,” I’m totally intrigued by this little phrase — “No Cap” — that keeps popping up in the lyrics. Its meaning and origins have got me hooked, so here’s the scoop from my research!

The term “capping” likely originated from the idea of putting a cap on something, in this case, putting a lid on the truth or reality. It’s often used in informal contexts among friends or peers, and it’s sometimes used as a challenge or accusation when someone suspects another person of lying or exaggerating.

“Capping” is a slang term that originated in African American Vernacular English (AAVE) and has since spread to broader usage, particularly in youth and hip-hop culture. In this context, “capping” refers to the act of lying, exaggerating, or boasting in a way that is not truthful. When someone is “capping,” they are essentially fabricating or embellishing their story or claims.

“No cap” is used to convey that someone is being genuine or truthful, often accompanied by a statement that might otherwise be perceived as exaggerated or unbelievable.

Essentially, when someone says “no cap,” they’re indicating that they’re not exaggerating or lying.

The song’s lyrics are like the intricate layers of Chennai’s Kathipara flyover — rich with text, subtext, and meta-text, all beautifully intertwined.
