Meditating on a slithering snake

Discovering Singularity

Despite my fear of snakes, I find it strangely comforting when I come across one during my walks in the neighborhood park.

Allow me to elucidate why.

The park borders an expansive, uninhabited area teeming with untamed vegetation. Typically, I take my walks around noon when the park is deserted. It’s precisely at this time that snakes tend to reposition themselves from their hiding spots. Consequently, it’s not uncommon for me to encounter a snake at least once a month during my park visits.

During a typical day, the mind is bombarded with a relentless stream of 10,000 thoughts. It’s akin to navigating the bustling streets of Bombay, with horns blaring and the sun’s intensity or the torrential rain adding to the chaos.

Yet, when a snake comes into view, everything else fades away.

My focus narrows, breath held, eyes locked onto its sinuous motion. As the snake completes its passage, there’s an overwhelming sense of release. It’s an almost euphoric experience.

In that fleeting instant, all else dissolves—no ties, no politics, no career, no health, no wealth. Just the snake and I, existing in this vast universe.

A moment of pure Singularity!
