5 simple tips to a better you

Ā§ Embrace Failure: Learn from setbacks rather than fearing them.

In the long run, your good decisions should be more than your bad ones OR a few good decisions should amplify the wins so much that the losses are obliterated.

If you try to minimise mistakes, you will miss the chances that life is throwing at you.

šŸ“šI learnt this the hard way while investing in stocksšŸ¤“. In the beginning, I was so afraid of loosing money that I never invested (though I worked for a decade in stock markets.)

Ā§ Say 'No' More Often: Say 'no' to commitments that donā€™t align with your goals or values.

šŸ“šProfessionally, I have said No to clients that I know will cause trouble later. Ex. the clients wonā€™t pay on time, have unclear objectives, we differ in values, etc. šŸ’° Though itā€™s a loss of revenue, such clients become a headache later.

But then I have worked with clients at a lower rateā€Šā€”ā€Šas they align with my overall goal at a particular time.

Ā§ Embrace Discomfort: Embrace discomfort as a catalyst for personal development.

šŸ“šI had a friend who introduced me to the concept of ā€œshark in the tankā€.

In this metaphorical storyā€Šā€”ā€ŠLetā€™s assume that thereā€™s a tank where fishes are lazing around. Say we introduce a shark in the lazy tank. This shark will escalate the problem solving, innovationĀ , motivation of the rest of the lazy fishes!šŸ

Ā§ Go Slow, Sleep moreĀ : In a world where everyone is running in circlesā€Šā€”ā€Šintentionally slowing down will enhance your focus, productivity, and appreciation for the present moment. You will achieve more than the rest ofĀ the junta.

šŸ“š My brother takes ages to prepare saladā€Šā€”ā€Šhe takes his time to wash, cut, season all the vegetablesā€Šā€”ā€Šalmost like heā€™s making love to themĀ šŸ˜€. And I have seen him taking the same approach as he deals with his finances as well as work.

Nowadays I am learning to take a bath slowlyā€Šā€”ā€Šat least once a weekā€Šā€”ā€Šand not rush through the process.

Another example is when I look at my son reading a book. I think people who read books are far more attentive than people who keep scrolling through their mobiles.

If you canā€™t meditate, read a book. Learn to slow downšŸ§˜ā€ā™€ļø.

Ā§ Less Choice, More Happiness. Practice Minimalism. Having fewer choices can lead to increased satisfaction and less clutter.

When I started teaching, I collected about a 100 books on Physics.

After 5 years of teaching, I realised that I needed only 5 to teach well. The rest of 95 just added to the clutter. And money is lying blocked therešŸ”–

The less youĀ own, the less you speak, the less you eatā€Šā€” more You are.

Ā§ Done >>> Perfect. Share whatever you can.

This one is a bonus.

My son knows far more about History and Geopoliticsā€Šā€”ā€Šthan I knowĀ Maths. WhereasĀ , I keep publishing whatever little I know on my YouTube channelĀ ; he keeps waiting for the perfect day when the stars will align and he will make the perfect video or blog šŸ˜€

We have a singing club in our localityā€Šā€”ā€Šfew people get together in the park every Sunday morning and sing songs. Though most of them are lynching the musical notes šŸŽ¶ā€”ā€Šitā€™s always fun to hear them.

šŸ“š Hope you found the above useful. As a work in progress, I try to keep these in mind in daily lifeā€Šā€”ā€Šdo share tips from your life too.
